Jean Canfield Government of Canada Building

  • Project Completion: April 2008

  • Contract Value: $5.2 Million

The Jean Canfield building is one of the most environmentally friendly buildings ever constructed by Public Works and Government Services Canada. This four story building has a gross floor area of 17,500 square meters and has a capacity for 500 employees. It incorporates new environmental design features and technologies, but still reflects the character and historic architecture in downtown Charlottetown.

Hansen Electric was awarded the electrical installation for the project which was included but not limited to: lutron eco lighting system (first of it’s kind in North America), complete under floor power and communications system, fire alarm and security systems.

  • The building is registered with the Canadian Green Building Council LEED Gold as the target.
  • Daylight harvesting allows for more use of natural light, and occupancy sensors activate lighting only when it is needed.
  • The building is equipped with a Photovoltaic Array, which will generate 130,000 watts of electrical power from solar energy. This has the equivalent energy reduction of 80 cars per year.

  • Project Completion: February 2007

  • Value: $1.3 million

Located on the UPEI Campus, the NRC Institute for Nutrisciences and Health (NRH-INH) operates in a state-of-the-art facility that creates a dynamic research and commercialization hub for the province’s emerging bioresources sector. Here, NRC scientists see how compounds found in nature can be used to tackle critical health problems such as infection and immunity related issues, neurological problems such as Alzheimer’s and multiple sclerosis, and complications related to obesity. The building is 5,127 square meters and features open concept labs and offices where 100 plus scientists, technical staff and students share space, resources and ideas.
